Facelift Surgery

Facial rejuvenating procedures such as facelift surgery are highly rewarding and satisfying procedures for appropriate patients. Most patients requesting evaluation for facelift surgery feel that their facial features do not reflect their youthful spirit and energy level.

The sagging skin of the face and neck is a common problem due to the combination of gravity and aging. A facelift surgery restores a more pleasing contour of the face and neck, allowing patients to “turn back the clock”, providing them with a better, more youthful appearance.

At MCC, we believe in providing our patients with a natural, vibrant and refreshed look as opposed to a more artificial, “plastic” or “pulled” appearance.

Some important facts
about Facelifting:

  • Facelift Surgery is a day surgery procedure safely executed under local anaesthetic and “twilight” sedation or GA administrated by Anaesthetist.
  • We will ensure your comfort at all times during the procedure, which takes approximately 2-4 hours.
  • Facelift is performed in a day surgery unit with walk in and out procedure.
  • The procedure involves excising excess skin, tightening of musculofascial layer and the re-draping and suturing of skin with fine sutures.

A consultation will provide full insights into the options most suitable for your lifestyle that best suits your desired appearance, as well as opportunity to discuss your options.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ideal face lift candidates are men or women who are seeking to improve their sagging facial and neck skin. You should be physically and psychologically healthy, and wanting to improve your appearance, rather than hoping for perfection. You will also need to understand the benefits and potential risks of the surgery.

Most individuals who seek a facelift procedure are between 40 and 70 years old. However, if you are younger than 40 years of age with a substantial amount of loose skin on your face and/or neck, a facelift is a suitable procedure for you as well.

For an assessment, please book a consultation with the Doctor.

During your consultation, your Doctor will examine you and discuss how a facelift could help to improve your appearance. He may also show you “before” and “after” pictures of previous patients, who have undergone the same or a similar procedure, and explain the steps of your facelift to you in detail.

Your Doctor is more than happy to answer all your questions during the consultation, however if you have any further questions, you can email them to us or make another appointment with Dr Ansari.

Prices for facelift surgery varies depending on a number of factors. These include your specific goals and requirements, the type of facelift you have selected, and the type of complexity and duration of your procedure. We will give you a firm quote, once all of the particulars have been decided during your consultation.

Our Doctor usually performs his facelift surgeries at an accredited hospital, using general anaesthesia.

For a traditional facelift, it is important to place the incision in an area where it won’t be obviously visible. The actual facelift incision is at the “ups and downs” of the ear at the front and in the ear groove at the back of the ear, so when it heals the scars won’t normally be visible. First of all, the skin is mobilised from the underlying tissues and then the underlying layer of muscles and fascia (called SMAS) of face and neck are tightened; this step is vital in giving you natural and long lasting results.

Our Doctors don’t believe in only tightening your skin, as it gives a “pulled look” and short term results. So your skin is re-draped back over your facial muscles and fascia without excessive tightening and stitched in place, after excising any extra skin. All of the incisions are closed with fine stitches with the aim of providing fine inconspicuous scars. At the conclusion of your operation, a dressing and compression garment is applied. A traditional facelift takes around 4-5 hours to complete.

Although this procedure is extensive, the pain during (if done under local anaesthetic) and after the procedure is easily tolerable. Strong painkillers and a script for antibiotics will be provided to you, although for most of our patients, simple painkillers is enough.

The facelift procedure cannot stop the aging process, however it does make you look more refreshed and rested. It is commonly said that a facelift will make you look 10years younger, however, it is important for you to realise that a facelift doesn’t stop the aging process. The results of a facelift may be considered permanent, in that you will continue to look younger for many years, much longer than if you had not undergone a facelift.

We always recommend that patients should prearrange post-surgery support from family members or friends, following your facelift surgery.

You will see the Doctor in his rooms 2 weeks following your procedure, when the stitches will be removed. Any bruising and swelling will gradually subside during the first 2 weeks and by the time you see Dr Ansari, you should be quite presentable. Most patients return to work 2 weeks after their surgery.

Some of the potential risks associated with facelift surgery may include infection, bleeding, scarring, nerve injury, and poor healing. Numbness over the cheek and neck areas is common after a facelift, but usually resolves itself over a period of months. It is important to note that smokers are at an increased risk of poor healing, which may lead to poor quality scars after a facelift.

Unfortunately no, facelift surgery is designed to target the lower portion of your face, along with your neck. Wrinkles of the forehead and around the eyes will require other procedures, such as eyelid surgery, brow lift surgery, and/or anti-wrinkle injections.

You can return to work in about 2 weeks following your facelift surgery, but strenuous activity should be avoided for at least 4 weeks.

If a facelift is performed correctly, there should be no surgical signs. The goal is to help you to look more youthful and rested, without creating a face that appears too “tight”.

Although most of the surgical steps are the same, at the time of your facelift surgery, we need to take into account a number of anatomic differences between women and men to assure that we obtain the best results for you.

For example, due to the vascularity of the beard area, men are at a slightly increased risk of bleeding, but they also seem to heal a bit more quickly as well, with less bruising and quicker resolution of any swelling. In addition, the incisions for a facelift need to be positioned different on men than women, to avoid hairy ears. There are other issues regarding shaving after a facelift surgery for men, due to mobilization and repositioning of the hair-bearing skin on a man’s cheeks.
