Lipo is a cosmetic procedure we perform at Newcastle My Cosmetic Clinic to remove fat cells permanently. This helps sculpt and redefine your figure when regular exercise and dieting alone have proven ineffective.
If you have tried dieting and exercise but are unable to
shift areas of fat then lipo may be a good option.
These cosmetic procedures are not for everyone and should not be used as a weight loss procedure.
A good candidate for this type of cosmetic plastic surgery is:
- someone who has actively been trying to lose weight and is unsatisfied with their results.
- Someone who is in good health with no significant comorbidities.
There are many areas of the body where stubborn pockets of fat can be treated by a plastic surgeon in our Newcastle clinic:
You will meet your cosmetic doctor at an initial appointment to discuss the procedure and if it is the right option for you. Your doctor will conduct a physical examination and discuss your medical history before booking a date for your procedure.
What happens on the day of your liposuction surgical procedure?
On the day of your liposuction procedure in our Newcastle clinic, you will be put under general anaesthetic before local anaesthesia is used to numb the operation site. A cannula is inserted through small incision sites into fat pockets, and the excess fat is sucked out.
What happens after the cosmetic procedure and how to maintain results?
You can go home the day of your lipo surgery to rest and recover. You will notice swelling and bruising around the incision sites which starts to decrease after 1 week. The healing process takes approximately 4 weeks.
To maintain results, you should wear the supplied compression garment for up to 6 weeks, maintain a stable weight and follow a healthy diet.
At your initial appointment, your doctor will discuss areas to be operated
on and realistic expectations for the lipo procedure.
Lipo is a minimally invasive surgery with a low risk of:
- Irregularities to skin and contouring.
- Post-surgical infection.
After the initial cost of a liposuction consultation in our clinic, the prices vary depending on the extent of your surgery and how many areas you are having operated on. Pricing commences at $4,900 for a single area, with each extra body part costing an additional $3,000. You can see our price list here for further costs.

Frequently asked questions about lipo procedures.
6 weeks after your surgery in our Newcastle clinic, the results you can expect to see will be more evident as the swelling and bruising subside completely. You will have a visibly slimmer and more contoured appearance of the chosen body site that was operated on.
No, lipo surgery doesn’t cure cellulite. This particular treatment removes fat, so will not impact the skin dimpling and puckering that causes cellulite. You may notice some improvement post-lipo, however, it is likely to be insignificant changes.
Thus, if you have body fat deposits that produce an undesired contour (e.g.“pot belly” or “saddlebag thighs” in females or “love handles” in males), then these can be permanently changed or limited by removal of the fat cells.
Lipo generally does not leave any scars. Our doctors at Newcastle My Cosmetic Clinic are highly skilled at creating very small incisions for the lipo cannulas that are barely visible once healed. Any scarring that is left post-surgery will fade with time.
Liposuction procedures remove fat cells permanently, so fat doesn’t reappear elsewhere. However, you will have remaining fat cells in other areas of your body that have not been operated on.
If you gain excessive amounts of weight you may find some fat grows back after lipo and you will lose the slim, contoured appearance you had.
If you have firm elastic skin then your excess skin shrinks after getting lipo. However, sometimes with aged skin that has lost its elasticity and firmness and you may need a skin firming surgery or treatment to help.
Yes, in our Newcastle clinic we can combine lipo with other procedures such as skin tightening, neck lifts, tummy tucks and more. Speak to our skilled cosmetic doctors about a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and expectations today.
