What is blepharoplasty surgery and how does it help restore vibrancy?

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin and fat around your eyes to restore your youthful appearance.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Our Central Coast and Erina surgeon performs upper eyelid surgery to help improve vision when saggy skin is impeding eyesight. This procedure removes excess eyelid skin from the upper eyelids and can be paired with a brow lift to give your eyes a more rounded and open appearance.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty

This procedure is for eyelid reduction, eye bag removal and correcting dark circles of your lower eyelid skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

All the common questions our patients have about eyelid surgery.

If your vision is impacted by excess skin then an eyelid reduction is considered a medical necessity and Medicare will cover some of the cost of upper blepharoplasty. Our friendly and experienced staff in our Erina and Central Coast clinic can answer your financial questions.

Most patients will report slight discomfort immediately post-surgery and for the first few days of the healing process. Fortunately, the recovery period is relatively quick with the swelling and bruising settling in the first week so this discomfort will not last long.

Blepharoplasty is a relatively safe plastic surgery, with a low risk of bleeding, infection, scars, dry eyes and rarely blurred vision. Our staff in our Erina or Central Coast clinic will discuss all risks and complications with you prior to your surgery.

Yes, upper and lower eyelid plastic surgery can be performed at the same time and is most people’s preference.

Post-operative care usually involves sleeping with your head elevated for the first few nights, and protecting your skin and eyes with sunscreen and sunglasses. Your surgeon at Erina or Central Coast My Cosmetic Clinic will notify you if there are any other post-operative measures.

No, you will not need to stay in the hospital. This procedure is a day surgery so you can go home that same day. You will need a friend or family member to drive you home and help you in the first 24 hours.

Our surgeons use the crease of your eyelids for incision sites to avoid visible scarring post-blepharoplasty.

You will only need to take 1-2 weeks off work post your eyelid surgery.

Our surgeons at My Cosmetic Clinic recommend you take it easy for the first few days before resuming your normal activities and exercise.

Once the swelling and bruising settle after the first 1-2 weeks you will be able to see the results of your surgery.

An eyebrow lift is combined with upper eyelid blepharoplasty on occasion, as this helps your vision and tightens the area around your eyes. If you want to combine other cosmetic surgeries it is best to discuss your expectations with your surgeon.

The results from eyelid reduction surgery are permanent. If you aren’t fully happy with the results or would like to remove more skin another procedure can be performed.

You will notice a marked improvement in the dark circles and excess skin in your eye region, a reduction in fine wrinkles, and improved vision. It will feel like a complete facial rejuvenation.
