What happens on the day of surgery
Your practitioner will mark your operation sights before proceeding to surgery. You will be given a sedative with a local anaesthetic, or in some circumstances a general anaesthetic, before your procedure.
What happens after the surgery?
You will need to rest for a few days and may experience bruising and/or swelling around your eyes. You will notice the bruising, swelling and discomfort markedly improves within the first 1-2 weeks, however, full recovery or appearance can take up to 3 months.

Most patients will report slight discomfort immediately post-surgery and for the first few days of the healing process. Fortunately, the recovery period is relatively quick with the swelling and bruising settling in the first week so this discomfort will not last long.
Are there any risks or complications?
Blepharoplasty is a relatively safe plastic surgery, with a low risk of bleeding, infection, scars, dry eyes and rarely blurred vision. Our staff in our Erina or Central Coast clinic will discuss all risks and complications with you prior to your surgery.
Can you combine upper and lower eyelid surgery?
Yes, upper and lower eyelid plastic surgery can be performed at the same time and is most people’s preference.
Is there any post-operative care?
Post-operative care usually involves sleeping with your head elevated for the first few nights, and protecting your skin and eyes with sunscreen and sunglasses. Your practitioner at Erina or Central Coast My Cosmetic Clinic will notify you if there are any other post-operative measures.
Will I need to stay in the hospital?
No, you will not need to stay in the hospital. This procedure is a day surgery so you can go home that same day. You will need a friend or family member to drive you home and help you in the first 24 hours.
Does blepharoplasty leave scars?
Our practitioners use the crease of your eyelids for incision sites to avoid visible scarring post-blepharoplasty.
How much time will I need to take off work?
You will only need to take 1-2 weeks off work post your eyelid surgery.
When can I resume my normal activities and exercise?
Our practitioners at My Cosmetic Clinic recommend you take it easy for the first few days before resuming your normal activities and exercise.
How long before I will see the results from the surgery?
Once the swelling and bruising settle after the first 1-2 weeks you will be able to see the results of your surgery.
Can I combine eyelid surgery with other cosmetic surgeries?
An eyebrow lift is combined with upper eyelid blepharoplasty on occasion, as this helps your vision and tightens the area around your eyes. If you want to combine other cosmetic surgeries it is best to discuss your expectations with your practitioner.
Are the results from the surgery permanent?
The results from eyelid reduction surgery are permanent. If you aren’t fully happy with the results or would like to remove more skin another procedure can be performed.
How much change will I see from the eyelid lift surgery?
You will notice a marked improvement in the dark circles and excess skin in your eye region, a reduction in fine wrinkles, and improved vision. It will feel like a complete facial rejuvenation.
