Many women, for a number of different reasons, are unhappy with their breast shape or size. This can often have an impact on their self-esteem and confidence, which is why breast enhancement surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in Australia.

Whether you’d like to be curvier, more symmetrical, feel more confident, or restore the shape and position of your breasts after weight loss or pregnancy, implants provide the solution.

So if you’re considering breast implant in Sydney or at another one of our clinic locations, you should contact the team at My Cosmetic Clinic. We pride ourselves on providing you with a safe, caring environment and outstanding, natural-looking results.

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation uses implants to improve the size, shape and symmetry of the breasts. Many women find successful surgery improves their self-confidence as well as how they look.

With the ability to choose implants to fit a patient’s body structure, breast volume and shape, this surgery aims to provide natural, long-lasting results.

Who is the right candidate
for breast implants?

Women who want larger, fuller breasts may benefit from breast implant surgery. This procedure also effectively corrects asymmetrical breasts.  If you are planning on becoming pregnant in the future, it might be wise to postpone your breast enhancement surgery, since pregnancy and breastfeeding can alter your results.

Suitable candidates for this procedure should not have any active infections or be currently pregnant or nursing. Those with a malignancy in the breasts will also be disqualified until the malignancy is treated.

How is the surgery performed?

Breast augmentation consists of the insertion of silicone breast implants (prosthesis), either under the breast tissue and above the chest muscle (submammary), or under both the breast tissue and the muscle (subpectoral).

The surgery aims to give you a fuller breast with increased cup size, improved contours and more cleavage. The most common way to insert breast implants is through a small incision under each breast within the breast crease. However, they may also be inserted via an incision around the areola (the pigmented area surrounding the nipple), or in the armpit.

The right placement is usually based on the amount of natural breast tissue you have. However, during your consultation, our breast implant surgeon in Sydney will work with you to determine which approach is most suitable. You can also select from different premium implants with long-term warranties.

What can I expect after breast enlargement surgery?

Post-operative swelling is frequent, and you will likely experience both swelling and bruising to some degree. These side effects can be reduced by following our post-surgery guidelines, which will be provided to you by the staff at My Cosmetic Clinic in written and verbal form.

We recommend that you sleep in a reclining position, as this may help the fluid move away from the breast area and ease the swelling. Any bruising typically fades within the first couple of weeks after your procedure. It is normal for swelling to move from the breasts to the abdominal area, resulting in a bloated appearance. Swelling tends to resolve within two to three weeks.

FAQs

We hope we’ve provided you with all the information you need about breast augmentation surgery. Please don’t hesitate to
contact us if you have any more questions. In the meantime, our more frequently asked questions below may also help you.

Scars are an inevitable by-product of nearly every surgery.  However, our surgeon will use careful placement and special techniques to make them as inconspicuous as possible.  Breast implant scars are usually a few centimeters long and are often positioned inside the breast fold or around the areola, where they will be barely noticeable.

As with any surgical or invasive procedure, there are always risks involved.  Dr Ansari will discuss these risks in your consultation, which might include infection, bleeding, severe bruising and a possible reaction to the anaesthesia.  Implant rupture is also a possibility, along with a painful complication known as capsular contracture.  Fortunately, these risks are relatively rare.

At My Cosmetic Clinic, breast implant surgery is performed in an accredited hospital and surgical facility in Sydney. This hospital serves patients seeking breast implants from Sydney, Sydney CBD, Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Newcastle and Wollongong.

The surgery is primarily performed to increase the size, shape or fullness of the breasts. The additional size will need to be discussed before your procedure and depends on a variety of factors, including your measurements and overall proportions.  Only an experienced Doctor with your best interests in mind can determine whether your expectations are achievable.

The amount of pain or discomfort you experience depends on the type of surgical technique used, the incision site and the placement location for your implants.  Individuals have varying degrees of pain threshold, however in most cases discomfort is usually well-tolerated with pain relief medication. Following your surgery, Dr Ansari will prescribe appropriate pain relief medication for you, allowing you to manage any discomfort you might experience effectively.

The same implants can give different results to different women.  Dr Ansari will discuss the size and shape of the implants that will work best for you, taking into consideration the size you desire along with your individual body proportions and the amount of breast tissue that is present.  The goal is to create a look that is fuller without compromising a natural appearance.

At My Cosmetic Clinic, we tend to prefer smooth silicone implants for most of our patients. However, the shape, size, volume and type of implant are all critical factors when choosing the best implants for your surgery.  During your consultation, Dr Ansari will discuss the variables with you and guide you in the direction that is best for you.

Implants do not last forever and need to be removed or replaced after anywhere between 10 and 20 years, depending on the individual and how your body reacts to them.
