Gynecomastia, or the enlargement of male breast tissue, affects many men due to various factors, including hormonal factors, genetics, weight changes, or medication. My Cosmetic Clinic offers personalised evaluation, guidance on the condition and procedure, and tailored treatment approaches aligned with your clinical needs.

What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a benign condition characterised by increased glandular breast tissue, specifically in males. While this is not a serious medical issue, it may cause self-consciousness. Other people experience reduction of their breast size because of lifestyle changes or losing weight. However, there are also many cases where these options may offer limited improvement.

How is Gynecomastia Surgery Performed?

The gynecomastia procedure is typically performed using liposuction to remove the excess fat and glandular tissue from the chest through a thin tube, which will be sucked by a vacuum. This technique will mainly target the stubborn fat and tissue to reduce the size of the patient’s chest. Surgery is minimally invasive with the use of small incisions for prompt recovery times.

Male breast reduction surgery may assist in:

  • Removing excess fat and glandular tissue from the chest
  • Improving chest profile through liposuction
  • Alleviating discomfort caused by enlarged breast tissue

Who May Consider This Treatment?

During a consultation, our qualified practitioners assess factors such as:

  • Medical history and current health status
  • Physical examination of the chest area
  • How the condition affects daily life or wellbeing
  • Suitability for surgical or non-surgical approaches

Note: Consultations are a must whenever this procedure is to be considered for an informed and comprehensive discussion. Additionally, treatment plans are custom-made per patient to understand their case better.

Frequently Asked Questions

We hope we’ve provided you with all the information you need about breast augmentation surgery. Please don’t hesitate to

WILL I NEED A GP REFERAL?

Yes. A GP referral will be required for your first consultation.Ā This can easily be obtained from your local GP.

Gynecomastia is often caused by an imbalance between the hormones testosterone and oestrogen. Other possible causes include certain medications, steroid use, genetics, or underlying health conditions. In many cases, the cause is unknown, which is why it’s important to have a proper assessment to rule out any underlying medical issues.

You may be a good candidate if you are physically healthy, have stable body weight, and experience persistent breast enlargement that does not respond to lifestyle changes. The best candidates are non-smokers, have realistic expectations, and are bothered by the appearance of their chest.

Consulting with our experienced and skilled practitioners is the best way to know whether you are a good candidate for surgery or not.

The procedure typically involves liposuction, excision of glandular tissue, or a combination of both, depending on the amount and type of tissue present. This type of surgery is usually done under general anaesthesia, and most patients go home the same day. Your practitioner will also recommend the best technique that will complement well with your case and needs.

Recovery times vary for each patient, but most of them return to work and light activities within 1–2 weeks. You will need to wear a compression garment to support healing and reduce swelling after your surgery. Strenuous activities and chest exercises should be avoided for at least 4–6 weeks or as advised by your doctor.

In most cases, the results are long-lasting, especially if you maintain a healthy lifestyle and stable weight. However, hormonal changes, weight gain, or certain medications could cause the condition to return.

Following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions will help you maintain your results.

A comprehensive consultation is required to determine if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure. Your practitioner will discuss the potential risks and benefits with you.
