What Are Lip Consultations?

Lip consultations involve a clinical assessment to explore concerns about lip symmetry, shape, or definition. These consultations may be suitable for people who are considering non-surgical ways to support lip structure and appearance.

Common areas of concern discussed during a lip consultation may include:

  • Lip shape or outline
  • Facial balance and lip proportions
  • Lip fullness or definition
  • Textural irregularities or asymmetry

The procedure is performed by experienced practitioners in a professional setting, with patient safety and comfort as a priority. Our team at My Cosmetic Clinic are able to help address your concerns by offering options with a personalised approach, considering factors such as facial proportions, lip shape, and individual preferences to achieve results that align with your goals.

Who Might Consider a Lip Consultation?

Anyone can consider getting lip volume consultations. However, not everyone is suitable to get lip procedures done.Ā

You may consider a lip consultation if you:

  • Notice reduced definition or shape in your lips over time
  • Have natural asymmetry that you’d like reviewed
  • Are seeking subtle refinement, not drastic change
  • Prefer non-surgical options with minimal downtime
  • Want professional advice before making any decisions

Note: Not everyone is a suitable candidate, and your practitioner will only proceed if it is clinically appropriate.

Who May Be Considered for Lip Volume Procedures?

Suitability for lip volume treatment can only be determined after a consultation with a qualified health practitioner. Treatment is not appropriate for everyone, and various health factors are assessed before proceeding.

A practitioner may consider whether a patient:

  • Is in general good health with no contraindicated medical conditions
  • Is not currently smoking, as this may impact recovery
  • Understands that results vary between individuals and that all medical procedures carry risks

Lip enhancement procedures involve Schedule 4 medicines and are only offered following clinical assessment and informed consent.

HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT FOR LIP ENHANCEMENT TREATMENT?

Booking an appointment for your lip volume consultation only includes a few clicks. You can either book your consultation on any of our conveniently-located clinics, or contact us directly at 1300 85 49 89 for assistance.

How Is the Lip Volume Procedure Performed?

Lip volume procedures are available only after a consultation with a qualified health practitioner. During the consultation, your medical history and aesthetic concerns will be discussed to determine whether treatment is appropriate. The practitioner will also explain the risks, side effects, and expected outcomes.

If you proceed with treatment, a topical anaesthetic may be used for comfort. The treatment is typically brief and carried out in a clinical setting by a registered health practitioner.

Lip volume treatments are not permanent. The effects generally last between 6 to 12 months, depending on individual factors.

What to Expect During the Lip Volume Consultation and Procedure?

We understand that undergoing a cosmetic procedure can feel daunting, which is why our friendly team is here to support you every step of the way.

Consultation

We will begin with an initial consultation to discuss your aesthetic goals, evaluate your eligibility and determine the best treatment for you. This allows us to create a personalised treatment plan that aligns with your expectations, delivering the results you are looking for. We will also discuss the procedure, outlining the potential risks, side effects and aftercare required to maintain your results.

Treatment Day

On the day, you’ll be welcomed into a clinical treatment room. A numbing cream may be used to maximise your comfort. Once the area is ready, the practitioner will carefully follow your treatment plan using very fine, sterile needles. The procedure typically takes under 30 minutes.

Important: Results from these procedures are not permanent and may differ from one person to another. The effects generally wear off over time and may require maintenance visits. Talk to your practitioner for more information about what you can expect, the risks, aftercare and how often you need maintenance visits.

What to Expect After Your Appointment

Slight swelling and sensitivity are normal after a lip procedure and can be managed with ice packs. The swelling should go down after a day or two, and you can go home immediately after the procedure. Once the swelling goes down, you will be able to see the results take shape.

Here are a few things you should be careful about:

  • Avoid applying anything on your lips, such as lipstick, lip balm or skincare products, for at least 24 hours.
  • Don’t rub or apply pressure on your lips, avoiding touching them or kissing for 2 days.
  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or hot environments such as sauna or steam, as it can worsen swelling.
  • Stay away from strenuous activity for the next 24 hours, as it can increase blood flow to the lips and increase swelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the most frequently asked questions regarding lip enhancement are answered below.

ARE LIP VOLUME PROCEDURES SAFE?

Yes. The products discussed during your consultation are safe to be used in Australia and will only be administered by our trained healthcare professionals in a clinical setting.

Results typically last between 6 and 12 months, depending on the product used and your body’s natural response. Repeat consultations may also be recommended to maintain results.

However, it’s better to discuss more about your suitability with a practitioner first before you start with your procedure.

Most patients describe only mild discomfort, often compared to a pinch. The products used contain local anaesthetic, and a numbing cream or ice pack is usually applied beforehand to improve comfort.

However, it should be understood that individual experiences could be different from one another. In case you are uncomfortable during your session, reach out to our team right away to address your concerns.

The appropriate amount will be determined during your consultation, based on your goals and existing lip structure. Your practitioner will tailor a plan to suit you.

Temporary swelling, redness, or bruising are the most common side effects and generally resolve within a few days. Your practitioner will guide you on how to care for the area post-treatment, and further tips on how you can recover from these procedures.Ā
