The scale may say your weight loss efforts have been successful, but your body might look otherwise. When you look in the mirror, instead of seeing the smooth, slim contour you wanted, isolated bulges and fat deposits may still get in the way of the new look you worked so hard to achieve. For individuals who can’t entirely obtain their body sculpting goals on their own, liposuction performed by Dr Ansari can be an effective way to put the finishing touches on your body profile.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that targets localised areas of fat, removing them to produce a smoother line to the body and help clothing fit more comfortably. If you are not fully satisfied with your appearance, liposuction may be a good solution for you. However, it is important to understand what the procedure does, what it is like and how the recovery process works before you schedule your treatment.

What Liposuction Does

Liposuction is designed to remove unwanted fat cells from the body to create a smoother contour. The process involves a narrow tube called a cannula, which is inserted directly into the deposit of fat. The cannula gently loosens the cells before suctioning them out. This method can be used for nearly any area of the body that requires contouring, including the:

  • Abdomen
  • Hips and flanks
  • Upper and lower back
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Knees and ankles
  • Upper arms Breasts
  • Neck and chin

Dr Ansari at My Cosmetic Clinic will assess your concerns and your aesthetic goals for your treatment area to determine whether liposuction will offer the best possible results. For example, patients who have an excessive amount of loose skin or fat to remove may benefit more from a lift procedure – with or without liposuction – to produce the dramatic outcome they want.

How Liposuction Works

Dr Ansari uses a technique known as the tumescent method for his liposuction procedures, which offers numerous benefits over other liposuction processes. Before the surgery begins, a treatment fluid is injected into the procedure area, which makes the fat cells easier to remove. There is also an anaesthetic in the formulation that makes the procedure even more comfortable for patients. Finally, the fluid constricts blood vessels to minimise bleeding before and after surgery. Dr Ansari performs most of his liposuction procedures using local anaesthetic with sedation.

Dr Ansari and his staff will make sure you are relaxed and comfortable throughout your liposuction procedure. Once the treatment area is numb, Dr Ansari will make small incisions so that he can carefully insert the cannula directly into the fat deposit. The cannula is attached to a suction device so that fat can be eliminated during the treatment once it is loosened. Your procedure could take anywhere from one to three hours, depending on how many areas you want to be addressed and how much fat you want to be removed.

After Your Liposuction Procedure

Since liposuction is usually done as day surgery, you should be able to go home a few hours after your treatment. You won’t be able to drive due to the medication you will be given for the surgery. You will need to have someone take you home and preferably remain with you for the first day or two to provide you with the assistance you are likely to require during that time. It is best to take it easy during the first couple of days so that your body has ample opportunity to heal and recover from your surgery.

You are likely to experience bruising and swelling after liposuction. You will be prescribed a compression garment to wear for a few weeks after the procedure will help to reduce those side effects, keep you comfortable during your recuperation and help optimise your body’s new contours. Pain medication will also be prescribed. By giving yourself plenty of time to relax and following all your post-operative instructions carefully, you can limit discomfort and make your recovery time as pleasant as possible.

Enjoy Your Results!

Within about two weeks after liposuction, you will probably be back at work and resuming most of your daily activities and light exercises. Strenuous exercise can be resumed after three weeks. During your recovery process, you may be frustrated with the fact that residual swelling is interfering with your ability to see the full results of your procedure. In addition, skin in the treatment area may not yet be completely moulded to your new contour, leaving some loose folds that you didn’t expect and certainly don’t want.

Patience is key during the weeks and even months following liposuction as you wait for that new contour to develop completely. Rest assured that swelling will subside completely over time and skin will tighten over the treatment area to give you the slimmer profile you wanted. Once you see your new body take shape, you can enjoy those results indefinitely as long as you keep the number on the scale nice and steady.

Is Liposuction Right for You?

Liposuction is a popular body contouring option today because it offers superior results with less discomfort and downtime than many other body shaping procedures. Your results can be dramatic and will last as long as you maintain your healthy lifestyle. Understanding the process will go far in helping you prepare for your surgery and ensure a smooth and positive experience throughout your procedure and recovery.

Don’t let stubborn bulges get in the way of your appearance or your self-confidence. Contact My Cosmetic Clinic today on +61-(02) 5849 6875 to schedule your consultation with Dr Ansari.
