Can a Thigh Lift Get Rid of Cellulite?

Cellulite is a very common skin condition. Those with cellulite will notice dimpled-looking skin, often on their thighs. If you have cellulite and are trying to improve the appearance of your skin, it may be time to consider getting a thigh lift. My Cosmetic Clinic, with locations in and around Sydney, Australia, offers this surgery as well as many other treatments.

You may notice cellulite as a result of aging, losing skin elasticity, genetics, or losing weight. While it’s most often found around the thighs and buttocks, cellulite can also appear on the upper arms, the lower abdomen, and the breasts. A thigh lift is one option for managing the appearance of cellulite.

Can a Thigh Lift Get Rid of Cellulite?

This surgery was originally designed to remove excess skin and fat. Following the surgery, you may have a more proportioned and balanced figure, greater freedom of movement, a lighter feeling in your limbs, and more confidence and self-esteem. Thanks to the way the surgery tightens and smooths the skin, some patients have also experienced an improvement in the appearance of their cellulite.

What Is a Thigh Lift?

It is a surgical procedure that tightens the skin and reshapes and smooths the thigh by removing excess skin and fat. Since it is a major and invasive surgical procedure with associated risks and a recovery time, it is important to talk with your medical professional about your goals for the surgery, your lifestyle, and your medical history.

How Does It Work?

While all thigh lifts will remove excess fat and skin, here are a few different kinds of lifts that target different areas of the thigh.

The surgery may take up to three hours or longer, depending on the size of the targeted area and the type of lift that is performed.

The Inner Thigh Lift

As the most common form of this surgery, this lift works to improve the appearance of your inner thighs’ sagging skin. An incision running from your groin to your knee or the back of your thigh area is created in order to target the fat in the lower portion of your inner thigh.

In this lift, an incision will be strategically placed in the groin area and along the crease where your thigh meets your pubic area in order to reduce visible scarring.

The Medial Thigh Lift

This lift focuses on reducing the skin and fat in the upper part of the inner thigh. Following the procedure, you may experience tighter, smoother, and more toned inner thighs.

The Outer Thigh Lift

This lift works to remove fat and skin from the outside of your thigh. The incision will be made around your waist and can result in tighter, smoother, more contoured thighs.

The Vertical Thigh Lift

This lift is a good choice if you have a lot of excess skin in all areas of your thighs. However, it requires larger incisions than some of the other lifts and may result in more obvious scars. The incisions created with this lift will extend down to your knees.

The Lift With Liposuction

For an even better result, this procedure can also be combined with liposuction. If your thigh area has poor skin elasticity, liposuction can help prevent sagging skin and remove more fat cells.

It’s important to talk to your practitioner about this as liposuction may only be added to the treatment if you have a low risk of blood clotting and enough time left under anaesthesia.

What Happens After Surgery?

After the surgery, you’ll have a brief recovery period. During this time, you may need to take mild pain medicine and won’t be able to drive or operate machinery for a few days. After around a week, you can start doing light exercise but should avoid high-impact exercises like running.

After the surgery and recovery time, you should experience long-lasting results as long as your weight remains stable and healthy. You may also experience an increase in confidence and self-esteem, more freedom of movement, and a better-proportioned figure.

Who Is a Good Candidate for This Surgery?

Ideal candidates for this surgery are healthy, have a stable and maintainable weight, have a reasonable level of fitness, and have realistic expectations. You should also be able to go under local anaesthesia, IV sedation, or general anaesthesia.

This procedure is particularly helpful if you’ve lost weight but have now developed sagging skin. However, it’s not meant to act as a substitute for weight loss, and should instead be considered the last step of your weight loss journey. Weight fluctuations can result in less-visible results post-surgery.
