A thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that may be considered by individuals seeking a non-surgical approach to support the appearance of sagging or lax skin. This treatment involves the placement of absorbable threads under the skin to create a lifting effect and stimulate collagen production.

At My Cosmetic Clinic, we offer thread lift procedures in Sydney and across multiple NSW locations, including Castle Hill, Crows Nest, Erina, Newcastle, Rosebery, Wollongong, and Balgowlah. A consultation with one of our qualified practitioners will help determine if this treatment is suitable for your needs and aesthetic goals.

What Is a Thread Lift Procedure?

A thread lift is a treatment that involves the insertion of specialised, TGA-included absorbable threads beneath the skin’s surface. These threads are designed with small barbs (also called “cogs”) that may assist in repositioning soft tissues and providing support in areas where mild to moderate skin laxity is present.

The thread lift procedure in My Cosmetic Clinic is typically performed under local anaesthesia in a clinical setting. Our practitioner may also perform thread lifts in various approaches, and the treatment plans to be personalised to address your concerns and needs.

Most treatments take approximately one hour, and patients generally resume daily activities shortly afterward. Recovery times and outcomes vary between individuals.

What areas do thread lifts treat?

A thread lift may support treating facial ageing symptoms that appear anywhere on the face. Some of the most common areas we treat are:

  • Cheeks and mid-face
  • Jawline
  • Brows
  • Neck

Important: As with all treatments and procedures at our clinic, a consultation is required to discuss your individual needs, available options, and expectations. Your practitioner will also explain the potential risks and realistic outcomes associated with thread lift procedures in Australia.

How do thread lifts work?

Depending on what area you need thread lifts, a small incision or puncture will be made by our qualified practitioner on the base. Then, the barbed threads are placed beneath the skin. Once inserted, these barbs open in an umbrella-like fashion to form a support structure, where they are gently positioned to support and elevate the skin. The threads may also stimulate the body’s natural collagen production, which can support skin structure over time.

While results are not permanent, thread lift treatments in Australia are often sought by those who wish to address visible signs of ageing without undergoing surgery.

What are the benefits of a thread lift procedure?

There are a number of benefits of having a thread face lift procedure:

  • Non-surgical
  • Treat the different concerns and needs of individual patients
  • Safe threads dissolve into the body after some time
  • Tighten loose skin
  • Firmer looking skin

Who May Be Suitable for a Thread Lift?

A thread lift may be considered by individuals experiencing mild to moderate skin laxity in areas they are concerned about, such as the cheeks, jawline, brows, or neck. However, individuals with significantly loose skin or those who are far from their stable weight range may not be advised to get this treatment for various factors.

During your consultation at My Cosmetic Clinic, your suitability for a thread lift treatment will be assessed by a qualified practitioner. If thread lifting is not appropriate for your needs, alternative non-surgical treatments, like wrinkle consultations, may be discussed to support your skin concerns.

Are There Risks or Potential Side Effects with a Thread Lift?

While a thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure, it is still a medical treatment and carries potential risks and side effects. These may include:

  • Temporary swelling or bruising
  • Thread visibility or palpability
  • Minor skin irregularities or asymmetry
  • Localised puckering or tightness
  • Infection or thread displacement

In most cases, these effects are mild and temporary. Other patients may also feel some tightness or pulling or may be able to feel the threads. As with any procedure, your practitioner will include a full discussion of risks, expected outcomes, and appropriate aftercare instructions during your consultation with My Cosmetic Clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any more questions about our thread lift treatments please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Below are some of our most frequently asked questions that may also provide you with the information you’re looking for.

How long does the procedure take?
The procedure is quick and usually performed under local anaesthesia. If desired, light oral sedation can be administered. The actual length of time will depend upon the total number of threads used. On average, the procedure typically takes approximately one hour. In most cases, four threads are the minimum needed to address moderate sagging of one facial area.

Typically, patients can return to their usual activities or return to their work within a few days to a week. In most cases, there is only minimal discomfort, bruising or swelling. Concealing makeup may be worn the next day. Sometimes there is an indentation of the skin where the thread causes a bit of tension. This indentation usually resolves within a few weeks.

Immediately after the operation, cold compresses are recommended to help avoid bruising. Patients are not required to stay at home following their thread lift – it’s a matter of personal choice. However, it is important during the first days not to stress or exert pressure on treated facial areas. It is advisable to sleep on two or three pillows to raise the shoulders for the first three or four days.

While results vary, physicians’ experiences have shown that you can enjoy substantial facial rejuvenation from 18 months to three years or more. Factors that will affect how long your results will last include your age at the time of the procedure, the degree of skin sagging you have and the number of threads used.

Thread lift procedures rejuvenate the face without changing your natural features. Facial soft tissues are just repositioned to their original location. After a thread lift, you can typically expect to look like you did a few years ago.

The thread lift procedure is an ideal complement to other facial rejuvenation techniques. It is not uncommon to have a thread lift combined with dermal fillers.

As the treatment is carried out using a local anaesthetic and a specially designed thin needle, patients typically feel minimal to no pain during the procedure.

We advise that you wait at least 12 to 18 months to have any follow up treatment.

A comprehensive consultation is required to determine if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure. Your practitioner will discuss the potential risks and benefits with you.
