Double chin surgery, also known as double chin reduction surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess fat beneath the chin. This treatment involves the use of liposuction techniques to remove fat deposits on the jawline and neck.
A consultation with a qualified health practitioner is required to determine your suitability for the procedure.
If you’re looking to talk to a cosmetic practitioner about double chin surgery in NSW, you can consult with our team at My Cosmetic Clinic. We are also in Castle Hill, Crows Nest, Erina, Newcastle, Rosebery, Sydney, Wollongong, and Balgowlah.
Individuals seek this procedure for various reasons, including how this treatment may assist in improving the lower face and jawline. While outcomes vary from person to person, your practitioner will discuss what may be achievable in your case.
Here are a few things you need to know about the surgery to get rid of double chin:
Your practitioner will also help establish realistic expectations based on your anatomy, skin elasticity, and general health during your consultation.
At your initial consultation with one of our friendly and experienced practitioners, all your questions will be answered, and a thorough medical history and physical examination will take place. A treatment plan will be formulated based on your expectations and needs and the date for your surgery will be booked.
This procedure is a day surgery performed with a local anaesthetic and sedation.
Once the local anaesthetic is administered and your chin area is completely numb, a small incision is made under your chin. A thin, hollow tube called a catheter is inserted through this incision and the fat cells will be sucked out. This small incision is then sutured closed.
Recovery can be different from person to person.
The typical recovery will involve some bruising and swelling, but this will start to settle after approximately 5 days. Note that full recovery can still take some time. You will wear a chin and neck compression garment to aid with the swelling and healing post-surgery.

Some of the most frequently asked questions regarding Double Chin Liposuction are answered below.
Yes. A GP referral will be required for your first consultation. This can easily be obtained from your local GP.
Yes, chin liposuction can be combined with other cosmetic procedures. It is always best to discuss options and expectations with your practitioner and they can tailor a specific package to you.
If you follow the recommendations of your practitioner then the results are long-lasting. Chin lipo removes fat cells from your chin and upper neck area permanently.
Our highly skilled practitioners strive to not leave any visible scars post this procedure. The incision site is tiny and placed in a less noticeable area of your chin so scarring will reduce and will fade over time.
We recommend you wait until the day after your procedure to have a shower, and then be mindful of your incision sites. Don’t scrub the sites and pat gently to dry with a soft towel.
A chin procedure does not include your cheeks. It targets your chin and upper neck.
You cannot drive home on the day of your surgery as you will have a sedative for your procedure and may be drowsy. You will need someone to drive you home.
You can eat your normal diet after the procedure, there are no restrictions. We do recommend you stick to a healthy and nutritious diet to maintain the results of your surgery.
You may notice results immediately after your surgery, however, it can take up to 2 to 4 weeks for the swelling and bruising to subside. After this period you will notice a big difference in the shape of your chin but it can take 3 months to see the full results.
A comprehensive consultation is required to determine if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure. Your practitioner will discuss the potential risks and benefits with you.
We recommend you allow a minimum of 1 to 3 days recovery time before you resume exercising and return to your normal activities.
In the first 5 days after your procedure, we recommend you avoid alcohol to reduce the risk of excessive bruising, swelling and bleeding and negative interactions with any medication you may have.
