Having droopy upper eyelids can make your life unnecessarily difficult. Not only can it make it you appear tired and older than your age, but it can also lead to forehead wrinkles from always having to raise your eyebrows. If you are looking to improve the way your eyelids look, My Cosmetic Clinic offers advanced eyelid surgery services in Sydney, Erina,  and Newcastle, Now you can finally eliminate eye fatigue and look fabulous again.

How Long Does Eyelid Surgery Recovery Take?

Traditional eyelid surgeries are expensive, leave scars, and come with a lengthy recovery process. At My Cosmetic Clinic, we offer innovative bladeless surgery that replaces the scalpel with an energy-based device that can make incisions in your eyelids. Bladeless technology features some great benefits. It is safer, more affordable, leaves less scarring, and has a much shorter recovery period.

Recovering from a bladeless eyelid procedure doesn’t take long. Most patients look presentable and can return to normal activities, including wearing makeup, within 10 to 14 days. You can go home immediately after and return within eight to ten days to have your sutures removed. Patients are typically able to go back to work after about a week. Although you will experience faster recovery with bladeless surgery, it may still take a few months for your eyelids to heal completely.

What to Expect While Recovering at Home

For the first two weeks, you may experience mild swelling and will be responsible for treating your eyes with cold compresses and keeping your facial area clean to promote healing. You can use sterile gauze pads to clean any oozing that may occur post-surgery.

After seven to ten days, you’ll likely feel good enough to resume your daily activities and can cover any remaining bruising with a concealer before going out in public. We will provide you with specific self-care instructions regarding medications and how to keep the surgical site clean.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Men and women of good health can undergo an eyelid procedure. The best candidates are those who have sagging upper or lower eyelids as well as puffy or loose skin. Most candidates are middle-aged, but younger patients can also benefit from this procedure if they have genetically inherited drooping eyelids.

How to Speed Up Your Recovery

At-home aftercare is one of the most critical steps of eyelid surgery. Instead of spending time in the hospital, you can quickly and safely recover in the comfort of your home. Recovery time can vary based on your health, but there are a few steps you can take to minimize your downtime.

1. Plan on Resting

While you may look and feel well enough to continue your usual routine within two weeks, it is essential to make sure that you rest as much as possible to speed up the healing process. If your days are typically filled with responsibilities such as grocery shopping or taking the kids to school, you might consider asking a loved one to fill in for you while you focus on healing.

Avoiding activities that can put a strain on your eyes is also helpful. Don’t plan on reading, checking your email, or binging your favourite show for a least a week after surgery. Engaging in these activities can lead to dry eyes, which can disrupt and prolong the healing process. A full night of rest following your surgery is one of the best ways to shorten your recovery.

2. Avoid Intense Exercise and Activities

Avoiding strenuous exercise and activities for the first 14 days after surgery is imperative for healing quickly. Workouts such as jogging, kickboxing, or circuit training can increase blood flow to your eyes, and even everyday movements such as bending, heavy lifting, and lying flat on your back can increase pressure in your head.

3. Follow Aftercare Instructions

There will be a few important at-home steps you will need to take following the first two days of your surgery. Self-care tasks typically include applying cold compresses to your eyes, keeping them hydrated with eye drops, and using an ointment to keep your eyes lubricated. Even if you’re feeling okay after the procedure, diligently following any aftercare instructions can ensure a speedy recovery.

4. Protect Yourself From Sunlight Exposure

Protecting your eyes from the sun and wind is imperative for speeding up the recovery process. If you must expose yourself to sunlight, it is best practice to wear dark sunglasses and a hat, and a high SPF sunscreen,  to make sure that your face is completely protected from damaging UV rays.

5. Avoid Smoking

Tobacco use can slow healing and make your recovery drag on for weeks. It can also put you at a heightened risk of infection post-surgery. If you’re a smoker, it is advisable to stop smoking at least six weeks before your procedure; otherwise, you may not be the right candidate.
